Picked by many to finish last in the Northeast Division and toward the bottom of the Eastern Conference, Ottawa entered Thursday night loose, knowing the pressure was on the top-seeded New York Rangers, who were facing elimination in their own building.
But in the end, it was the Rangers' defense who got the better of the Senators offensively and in their own zone as New York advanced to the second round to face the Washington Capitals with a 2-1 victory. Goals from Marc Staal and Dan Girardi were the difference on the scoresheet, but it was Henrik Lundqvist (26 saves) who Ottawa was unable to solve all night.
History was against the Senators coming into Thursday night. The Senators were 0-4 in Game 7s before this latest loss, while New York had never lost a Game 7 at MSG in three attempts.

Fernando ‘The Greatest’ Torres seals Chelsea’s place in the Champions League final
Everyone said Chelsea would have to play two perfect matches to beat Barcelona in their Champions League seminfinal. They patiently waited in defense and held on for a 1-0 win at home in the first leg. In the first half of the second leg, Gary Cahill went off with an injury, Sergio Busquets equalized for Barcleona, John Terry got himself sent off to put Chelsea down to 10 men after just 37 minutes, Andres Iniesta put Barcelona ahead against a team with just 10 men and no centerbacks and then Ramires lobbed in a beauty to give Chelsea the advantage on away goals. Halftime.
The second half of the second leg began and Didier Drogba lunged at Cesc Fabregas in the box, who went flying because he felt the breeze. Still, it was enough to earn a penalty and Lionel Messi was the assassin to deliver the deathblow. Except, under the pressure of the situation and to the disbelief of everyone, he pinged his shot off the crossbar. Chelsea were somehow still in the lead.Barcelona again dominated possession, lulling themselves to sleep with every pass. Time slipped away as Chelsea made clearance after clearance. In the 80th minute, Fernando Torres was subbed on for Didier Drogba. And in the added time, with Chelsea just trying to survive a few more nervy seconds, it happened. Fernando Torres snuck behind the Barcelona defenders and found himself alone with just half a pitch, Victor Valdes and the goal. He made a move, hopped Valdes and slotted the ball into the empty net. Chelsea win on a 3-2 aggregate score. Advance to the final.Thursday, April 19, 2012

Didier Drogba scored in the second minute of first-half stoppage time, and Chelsea held on to beat defending champion Barcelona 1-0 Wednesday night in the first leg of the Champions League semifinals. Lionel Messi lost possession of the ball in midfield, and Frank Lampard passed to Ramires for a counterattack. Ramires' cross was swept into the goal by Drogba, who scuffed his shot but still beat goalkeeper Victor Valdes. After, these first leg Bayern Munitch vs Real Madrid and Chelsea vs Barcelon ; thus, we can be prepare to have a good game during the second leg in one week. hopefully, those teams, who fell in the first leg will be more determine to win the second leg.

Bayerne Munich vs Real Madrid: first Leg Champion League
As I annonced two week ago, the game between the Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in the semi-final of champion league held today. The both team have different goal to achieve . One wants to solidify their status as Europe’s best team this year, the other wants an opportunity to win in front of its fans. Indeed, at the begining of the game the Real Madrid was derternine to win this first leg; thus, they were more offencive until, they make the first goal. But, Bayern Munich had not said his last word. Therefore, the players became more aggressive and they made a contre offencive in order to reduce the score. After, half hour, Bayerne scored. And it was a tie game until the last 30mn of the game when Bayerne made another goal. Madrid would not overcome until the end. Many people was more certain that Madril would win this game, but Bayern was the best. Tomorrow, we will see the game between FC Chelsea and FC Barcelona, so every lover of the soccer is invit to post a comment on my blog and try to give their point of view about the past game a the next one tomorrow.

According to CBC play by play man Jim Hughson, Chris Tanev of the Vancouver Canucks made the defensive play of the NHL postseason on Friday night, batting a Dustin Brown shot away with his glove as Roberto Luongo was down on the ice. Look at those silly Los Angeles Kings! Celebrating a shorthanded goal that was never scored!

Champions League : Bayern meet Madrid, Chelsea play Barcelona
UEFA has the head-to-head records ahead of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals as final hosts FC Bayern München face Real Madrid CF and holders FC Barcelona play Chelsea FC.
The first leg is at the Fubball Arena München on Tuesday 17 April, with the Santiago Bernabéu return eight days later. Among these clubs' many meetings are consecutive semi-finals in 1999/2000 and 2000/01, with Madrid winning the first and Bayern the second, both eventually lifting the trophy. Bayern also knocked out Madrid in the last four in 1976 and 1987.
Holders FC Barcelona defeated AC Milan to reach the semi-finals and now take on Chelsea FC, 2-1 victors over SL Benfica on Wednesday to add to their 1-0 away success. They played at this stage in 2009 when Barcelona advanced on away goals, drawing 1-1 in London after a 0-0 Camp Nou stalemate, and picked up the third of their four European Cups.
The first leg is at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday 18 April before the conclusion in Catalonia six days later.

This Wildcats team is no different than most of the teams John Calipari has led to the Final Four. It is built around future pros making only a pit stop in the college game. But he figured something out this time around and found a way to get these players to buy into their roles. When I first watched Michael Kidd-Gilchrist a few years ago, he was the very best player on the floor at a LeBron James camp in Akron. But with Kentucky, he’s a glue guy. In high school, Marquis Teague was his team’s offense. But he’s grown into more of an actual point guard, and helps orchestrate the offense. It’s reasonable to doubt Calipari’s in-game coaching ability compared to the Jayhawks’ Bill Self, but the Wildcats are too talented and have been too well-coached to this point.
